Abstract Design for Relaxing

Abstract design is not simply a mixture of colourful useless patterns and arbitrary styles.

There is certainly, I believe, a definate therapeutic value to be found in almost all of the enigmatic marks manufactured by the very different styles available today. What looks to be the main decision to make is a very careful consideration of the specific audience in conjunction with the choosing of the appropriate abstract design. This may not be something to be taken lightly or quickly.

This can cover any person within the wide array of individual audiences: a fastpaced boardroom environment or just one office or room where quick thinking, fast reactions, and serious decision making is necessary; or an employee who returns from a hard days work simply wanting to be how it looks massaged by an easily observed enigma; or use the space inwhich the desperate and mostly confusing individual who is slowly but surely loosing their tentative hold on the sense of reality. Generally there is a tremendous variety of possibilities.

How Abstract Design can be Relaxaxing

Indefinate shapes or habits abstract design by the likes of Jackson Pollock, Peter Lanyon, and Howard Hodgkin (again, similar works inspired by these different abstract styles can be seen in many exhibitions, shops and galleries), show a very positive association, and may perhaps persuade a head filled with illogical thoughts to pause, simply take in the apparent spontenaiety, and then take a different direction.

Hodgkin style works especially can be seen as puzzle like canvases inwhich the viewer has no real point of reference so is liberal to “stdesign” anywhere after the style. And because there are incredibly few identified areas sometimes the viewer inevitably finds themself either about the piece with little emotion, and therefore can freely make a statement – positive or not.

Shade plays an evident recovery and therapeutic role to be found in a carefully selected crafted  abstract design, and so colour-field work, which is growing in popularity, first conceived by designists like Mark Rothko and Ellsworth Kelly with their vast regions of vacant colour space, might add a general feeling of tranquility to an in any other case noisy and hectic environment.

With delete word very few variations within such a sizable image a soft sense of immersion into abstract stillness can decrease down any fretful or irratic thinking, and even assist with the well known adrenal challenge of a creative.

Let us not reject, yet , the fact that many an image that has the potential to provoke a bad response can be of great value to the observer who might actually benefit from going to such a challenging picture that bears such a bad association. Better there on the wall than here inside the brain. In this case the classic associations of red for blood and threat, black for death and sin, brown for rot and illness, along with dramatic lines and moves found in a protecting are equally valuable stimulii if revealed within the appropriate environment.

This comes back to my point made at the beginning – when choosing an image, very careful consideration must be studied in order to find that one work of abstract design which speaks immediately to the very greatest abstract designs of the viewer.
